A & P In the Norton Introduction to Literature, at that stick are a variety of wonderful curt stories. The jump interesting short story our class read was A & P by John Updike. This story takes place at a topical anesthetic grocery store. Everything is peaceful and charm like usual, until three girls in nothing but clean suits decide to do a micro shopping. A example in the story named Sammy, is the fibber and describes every detail through and through his perspective. I believe Sammy proves to be an unreliable narrator because his immatureness and warp judgment towards others. During the novel, Sammy proves to be babyish by his actions and joint choices he uses towards sheep. By sheep, Sammy is referring to the senior citizens that move slowly vanquish the aisle, muttering Let me see, there was a third thing, began with A, asparagus, no, ah, methamphetamine hydrochloride!(Updike 410). When a lovely gentlewoman comes up to Sammys understand to check out, Sammy makes a mistake. Sammy complains I ring up the HiHo wild again and the customer starts self-aggrandising me hell. Shes one of those cash-register watchers, a witch about fifty with rouge on her hardiness bones and no eyebrows, and I know it made her twenty-four hours to trip me up.(Updike 409). In my eyes, the way Sammy approached this situation was immature and irresponsible, because a simple plea could have changed the outcome.
